Clinical & Research Expertise

Dr. Kazantzis is internationally renowned for his expertise in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). His research has influenced thinking regarding the in-session and treatment processes of CBT. His discoveries have lead to increased professional awareness of these topics and established his group at the forefront of CBT process research in Australia.

His scholarly work of over 130 publications includes research articles as well as books on the topics of engagement with between-session therapeutic activities (homework) in CBT, the therapeutic relationship in CBT, collaborative-empiricism, Socratic dialogue, and the assessment of therapist competence in CBT. He has been the recipient of NIMH grants for technology-based implementation of homework enhancement protocols; and technology-based assessment of the determinants of engagement with homework. He was Editor for Australian Psychologist, is presently Associate Editor for Cognitive Therapy and Research and International Journal of Cognitive Therapy, and is Editor-elect for Cognitive and Behavioral Practice. He was a member of the 8th World Congress of Behavior and Cognitive Therapies (Deputy Chair, Scientific Program). He was the lead author and clinical demonstrator for Australian Psychological Society Institute's online CBT training program, which has now trained 7,000 psychologists.
