Clinical & Research Expertise

Dr. Kazantzis is internationally renowned for his expertise in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). His research has influenced thinking regarding the in-session and treatment processes of CBT. His discoveries have lead to increased professional awareness of these topics and established his group at the forefront of CBT process research in Australia.

Dr. Kazantzis is the Australian delegate and board member of the International Association of Cognitive Therapy. He previously served as a member of the National Council for the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists, and as Chair of the National Education and Training Committee. He was also Deputy Scientific Program Chair for the 8th World Congress of Behavior and Cognitive Therapies. He has received many awards and honors. In recognition of his achievements in the field of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dr. Kazantzis earned the title of Beck Scholar from the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, presented by Dr. Aaron T. Beck and Dr. Judith S. Beck. The Australian Psychological Society appointed Dr. Kazantzis a Fellow in 2016. The New Zealand Psychological Society also awarded him a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his professional contributions made as Editor-in-Chief of the New Zealand Journal of Psychology. Dr. Kazantzis is currently an Associate Editor of Cognitive Therapy and Research, International Journal of Cognitive Therapy, and is immediate past Editor-in-Chief of Australian Psychologist. His research program has supported significant funding (including NIMH grants), led to >120 peer-reviewed publications, and resulted in >3,500 citations.
